Wondering how to rank first on SERP for your desired keywords but struggling to out-spend your competitors on a paid ad? It’s time to work on your organic strategy and grow your traffic through SEO. In this article, we look into the latest SEO trends that can help your start-up gain organic traffic without spending a dime.

1) User Search Intent Content

After the introduction of BERT by Google, SEO experts have been talking about a paradigm shift from keywords research to intent.

In the past, optimizing content for the targeted keywords and strings ensured a higher rank but Google has been slowly shifting towards making sure that the content is optimized for user intent instead.

What is the search intent? It is the purpose of the search done by the user. There are four types of search intent:

1) Informational intent
2) Navigational intent
3) Transactional intent
4) Commercial investigation

For example, if you’re a used car auto dealer, understand the intent of your customer.

If your user is searching for “How to buy a used car”; the search intent is Informational.

Make sure your landing page regarding “How to buy a used car” keyword has the complete information with appropriate infographics of the buying process, in-depth answers to all the queries a customer might have and quality information backed by credible sources.

DO NOT display used-car for sale or any product listing on the landing page because those are for transactional intent, this mix-up would make Google rank you lower.

2)  Backlinks

They’ll keep on telling you that backlinks are dead, but the truth is Backlinks are alive and still a winning SEO strategy. A study published in Backlinko found that the backlinks had the highest correlation with Google ranking.

A backlink is when one website links with the other website through referencing their content or linking your content directly. This linking is a voice of confidence and search loves to crawl through these backlinks to rank you.

But it is not that simple.
Backlinks take time to develop and 55% webpages do not have a single backlink. Why is that?

It takes time for other websites to see you as an authority or reference your content, Backlinks are heavily dependent on a website’s domain authority and as you have grown your DA, you will see more websites linking with you.

Google prefers backlinks from websites with higher domain authority. New York Times linking your website is a major win compared to your local news reporter.

One Genuine Advice: DO NOT ever buy backlinks. It is considered cheating by Google and can get your website blacklisted, say goodbye to traffic if that happens.

3) Infographics

Your start-up must have researched extensively regarding your industry or the problem that you’re solving.

It is boring for a user to read long statistical texts explaining why these numbers matter. What if I told you there is a simpler way and a way that is loved by Search Engines?

It is a fact that search engines process visual data faster than text.

As a design nerd, nothing makes me more excited than to work on infographics in my internet marketing agency.

The best way to design infographics is to tell a story through numbers. It is very important when it comes to SEO that the content is made for the user and they completely comprehend what
you’re trying to communicate to them.

One advice I give to all my clients is that do not cram all the information in one infographic as that would affect the user experience, lowering your SEO.

4) Local SEO & Google My Business

Is your start-up solving a regional problem or is it serving a local community? Let’s get back to our tip one that was the Search intent.

When a user makes a localized search such as “Shoe-seller near me” or “Best Shoe-seller in Chicago” the search intent is usually transactional.

What you need to do is optimize your transactional pages for these types of keywords. Make sure you have all the required information such as Address, Postal Code, Contact Information, and Google Maps link in all your product listings. It doesn’t matter if you’ve one product listing or a million, Make sure the information is available on all.

Have you been wondering how your start-up can appear in the business listings below the map in the results displayed after a Google search with local intent of user? By enabling “Google My Business” for your company.

Google My Business requires information regarding your business location, contact info, and company details. If your information is not accurate or correct, search engines will start ranking you lower.

5) Cornerstone Content

The backbone of any SEO strategy is Cornerstone content. Cornerstone Content is the high-quality content regarding your company, those 4-5 articles, blogs, or posts that you want your user to read the most.

They are informational, detailed, problem-solving, user-focused content that communicates your brand’s vision to the user. The tone of your article should be authoritative in the subject being talked about, should align with the IMC of the company, and perfect for your target audience.

Cornerstone Content should have prominent placement on your website. They can be placed on the homepage where they can be directly clicked to the landing page or as the site structure develops make sure Cornerstone Content is placed in places with the highest user traffic.

Your site structure should be easy to navigate, make sure your cornerstone content is not an article that is floating nowhere. Link it with other pages of your website and all the additional content you write reference the cornerstone content. That would ensure search engines can navigate through your site smoothly and find the Cornerstone Content.

An Important tip to remember is your cornerstone should be at least 900 words that is because long texts rank more easily than short text.

6) User-Generated Content

Brands fail to realize that majority of the viral content on the website is user-generated compared to brand-generated. Then why don’t we push user-generated content more?

Your start-up needs to appreciate and involve the users of your product or service to create content for you. The important aspect is the fact that it helps in credibility something search engines rank very highly.

What is the User-Generated Content your company can post?

– Reviews and testimonials
– Discussion forums and Q&A sections
– Pictures & Videos Shared by the Users

The best part about user-generated content is that it doesn’t cost anything and is already optimized for SEO as users tend to use the keywords of the product or service they used in their reviews.

I can imagine how hard for an early start-up can be when it comes to brand marketing costs so why not go for UGC that is completely free?

Ask your marketing agency to apply these 6 hacks to improve your SEO strategy but remember one important detail that when it comes to SEO be persistent. It will take time for the Search Engine to pick up all the changes you have made but let me assure you that the increase in organic traffic would be worth it.
